Is it worth leaving your home to pursue career ambitions? To what extent is a career the means to be happy? Why is a career more important than your family of which you are an integral part?

I always knew I would be going abroad for my graduate studies. I had somehow even convinced by overprotective father too. But right when the application was to be made my sibling was killed. My parents completely broke down. There was no way I would leave them in that condition to follow my dreams. I chose to stay back despite it being my dream from childhood to go abroad to this particular university. I joined for a job at a place near my home while I stayed with my folks. They are almost normal now. Well, no one really recovers from losing their child but they are managing better these days. Deep down that dream isn't dead. I still want to. It would have given me a head start for my dream career. I would have been in a better place financially and probably even work experience wise. But I do not regret staying back. I know for sure I would have regretted if I went away when my parents needed me. Career is definitely important. Somehow we learn to define ourselves on the basis on career. But somewhere, you need to find the balance between work and family. That's where you would find happiness.
