Would i get government job?

Which should I do: B.Com honors from Shri Ram College of Commerce and get a private job or do an ITI/Diploma in Education (DEd), become a teacher and get a government job like in Railways?

  • I am really confused. This question will seem to be centered on the distinction between Government and private job. Read on I had got admission into Shri Ram College of Commerce, with 93.75%(thanks to SC quota). A bit insight to my life- I had studied till 10th in Madhya Pradesh and following death of my both parents I had moved on to Delhi, currently living with my bua(father's sister), completed my 11 & 12 in Delhi. My bua has two sons 21, 19. So my elder cousin is compelling me to give up the admission in SRCC, do an ITI/Ded and get a government job like teacher, loco pilot, technition. He says "college faaltu log jaate hai, tu diploma kar jisse tujhe seedhe job milege. Degree se kuch ni hota" He also says that never go for a private job. Actually my whole family says go for a government job. A bit about my elder cousin(21): after completing 12th, he join correspondence college for http://b.com. he only wents on sundays. He spended his time watching cricket matches on tv. After 3yrs we discovered that he actually never went to college. He was badly scolded by his mother. Now he had managed to get a graduation degree in black by paying rs. 30,000. from jodhpur university. He says if i want degree I should also get that the way he had. He is still unemployed, and filled up railway vacancies on 12th basis. He is compelling me to give up srcc amd go to an iti. I really wanna go to srcc but he is not letting me, saying that I may not get a govt job. What should i do.

This question can be answered in terms of 3 key principles, (one of which you display in your explanation): 1) Every education choice is a means to the start of a career path That you connect an educational pathway to a hypothetical first job means your understanding of number 1 is there. 2) Do a job in a career and company in which you would respect as a third party looking in. This is especially true for your first few careers. For this, if you look down on govt employees has lazy, "iron rice bowl" workers without ambition, then being in the path means hating yourself or happily becoming the person you now despise. There are also those who think that private sector employees are exploitative leeches drawing on the brilliance of others whose shadow you will never leave. Choose your poison. 3) How far you will go in that career path depends on how good you are at the job. Finally, while this isn't a major factor for your first job, (3) is a key deciding factor in the future. The greatest achievers in IT are almost natural coders, or are extremely meticulous and become legendary project managers. A salesman often said to be born and not bred. In the future, you aren't likely  to change as much as you think you are. Decide on your career path based on that.

Thanks for the A2A. I think you already knew the answer to this question before asking it. Definitely go for SRCC. Do not listen to your cousin. I repeat, do not listen to him. Once you complete your graduation from SRCC, you will have the option to do anything you want. Private job, government job, teacher whatever you want. But by then, you will also be sensible enough to undertand what you want to do in life. I guess your cousin has not been a good student himself, hence his advice for you to leave SRCC and go for a diploma. But SRCC is an extremely big brand name, and it will open a world of opportunities for you. If you give it up now, you will always regret it. Look at it this way, you can always go for a diploma whenever you want, but you won't always have SRCC in your pocket. I hope you make the right choice. PS: I am gifting your credits back to you, use them to get more answers to this question and make the right choice!

Without doubt or hesitation, you should go for a B. Com. degree from a reputed college of D.U. to ensure a better future, even if you have to presently struggle financially. Always think big--isn't it !

I can sense your confusion. And, I can also understand the family setting. A guaranteed job vs education debate. However, life is never about that. It is about experiences and learning and exploring and discovering yourself. You'll be playing safe by just getting the job instead of being brave and moving out of your comfort zone. Always remember that you are one of of the lucky ones been given an opportunity to do something great. Talk, discuss, argue with your parents and tell them that you want to go to SRCC. As for extended relatives, they'll condemn you, but that'll soon pass when they see your success. SRCC is the one of the finest colleges of University of Delhi. You are going to an excellent place. Best of luck!

Looking at your back ground i will try to build a sketch which might help you take your decision B Com Pros 1. One of the best colleges 2. You will get the exposure which you are not getting doing iti or any other degree. 3. Far more better chances that you will end up in a private company with good salary. 4. Today is the time where graduation has become a nominal qualification so it keeps your window open if you plan to study more after you are settled. 5. Private companies keep your rooms open for everything. There you are judged by merits. The better you are the more you will fly. 6. And take my word on studies, the more you learn or study the better equiped you are to face this world. Better colleges matures you. May be after graduation you go on to give UPSC ( for which graduation is must) and go for elite class civil services. Cons 1. Higher initial investment. 2. Sometimes family backing is needed. 3. Yes, private sector is fragile. No guarenteed work. There is a chance where they ask you to leave the other day and you cant do anything except to resign. 4. Govt job can give you security but that comes with a monotonous life which you may have heard of in the earlier answers. My suggestion I would recommend you go for a better college i.e. for graduation. If you have financial crisis dont hesitate to do a part time job. Struggle is all we have come here for. So dont fear the uncertain. Its okay if your taking the chance but also be prepared for the hurdles. And all the very best ! And i hope this helps :)

you should not even think of leaving SRCC.  It has its own brand value . Doing diploma and a Government job will fetch you less pay as compared to top corporate companies . Also you had got such a great marks despite of being of reserved category. obviously you can get more marks in college and get a good job offer through on campus placement . go for SRCC and have a great experience there . All d best .. :)
