How can a person afford to buy a Ford Mustang while going to college full-time?

Since I'm going full time to school I feel like it'll take too long to save paycheck after paycheck with a part time job. My parents pay tuition and I stay home so luckily that's taken care of. They tell me that ford mustangs are bad cars and since I want the 6 cylinder one they say it'll use up gas fast. 1. What should I do to get money fast so I can get a used Ford Mustang ASAP? It's about $10,000 on Carmax. 2. Will it be a good choice for a car in which it is reliable to not break down easily? 3. Does it really burn gas that quickly? I would use it to go to and from school, the gym, work, and maybe 2-3 times a week to go out with friends. Is maintenance for it expensive? What about insurance? 4. Overall, for a college student who would be going school full time and have a part time job, is this a good choice for a first car?

    Maximize revenue and minimize costs with the given time constraints. Summer jobs is when you'll earn the big chunk of cash as you'll be working full time. It burns a lot of fuel. And it's pretty unreliable but it's loud and goes fast. So your pick. You not only have to consider the cost of the car but all the cost of insurance, registration and maintaince which can be around $2000 per year. My advice: choose what's most important to you. Do you want to be chained to car or spend what little money you can earn with your friends making experiences? If you do well in college you might be able to afford a NEW mustang or 64' type mustang.

A 2000-04 V6 Mustang is everything a first car should be! It may not have power like a GT but it looks nice and is worthy of pampering. The MPG rating vs what you'll really get is going to be quite a difference in a 4cylinder you have to keep pinned to the floor to get up every little hill. It won't be so big of a difference in a V6 Mustang vs a 4cylinder that you'll hurt for it, especially if you can have a more modest driving style and keep it at lower RPMs on average vs a 4 cylinder. With that said, $10,000 for an 00-04 V6 Mustang??? You can find one for $3500 in my area so shop for it from a person NOT a dealer, go on Craigslist or be ready to drive to another state. $10,000 on a very clean low mile GT is fair, but a V6? Not worth it. They are plenty reliable when maintained, better than a cheap FWD with the same miles, same year. Though watch out for exhaust leaks on the V6 Mustang, an easy fix if you do it yourself under $100 with tools. Find one cheaper than $10,000 and you'll feel better about saving. Deliver pizza once you get it so you can pay back any loans you take out. Don't drive it in the snow!! You'll want to drive in a parking lot and practice drifting if you do so you know what to expect when you do slide. But that can be said about ANY vehicle. If you get the V8 you'll be even happier, and the gas isn't that big of a deal because you don't drive it as hard. Owning a Mustang is a great experience that keeps giving back over time. You won't regret it!!
