How to get to the alarm clock on Android?

What would be the best solution for an appliance-connected alarm clock project?

  • I want to build an alarm clock that is deactivated by an action made in some appliance such as get the coffee from a coffeemaker or turn on the shower. My plan is to build an app in my android which will connect with an arduino via WiFi. I have already an android phone, so I was thinking about buying anĀ  arduino (http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00F6YJK3S/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?qid=1397777857&sr=8-3&pi=SX200_QL40) with WiFi connection to do this.

  • Answer:

I think you have at least two options here: connect your coffee maker to an Arduino that is WiFi or Bluetooth enabled. If you use WiFi, you can connect the Arduino to the internet using services like http://Onion.io (free for personal use, also this is where I work) that will give you APIs to talk to your device. If you use Bluetooth (I recommend BLE), you can pair the coffee maker to other devices or a smart phone so they can talk to each other, as long as they are within range. Feel free to ask if you'd like clarification.
