How Does Flipkart Make Money?

How can I take a case against Flipkart.com to court?

  • I placed an order on flipkart in early September '14, paid upfront with a debit card. When they did not make a delivery for over 4 weeks, I asked for a refund. They are yet to make that refund even two weeks after I asked for it. I have raised several complaints with their customer support, each of which took 3-4 days for a response. Even then the response fails to resolve the issue. I have reached the conclusion that Flipkart is just an online scam running only to collect money from customers and hold it interest free for as long as possible. I'am sure they are holding crores of rupees in customers money this way.

  • Answer:

I am sure that your problem is genuine, but as I have bought things from Flipkart and never had a problem, and know others too who have had no issues  I dont think that they are running a scam. However their customer support may be less than efficient. Do conduct all your discussions with their consumer care through clearly written emails only, follow up diligently, inform them that you expect resolution in a stated time period or you will take legal action. If that does not work then you need to take further action. Harsh Chhabra's suggestion looks the best to me.

First of all tell me how did you make the payments? Was it credit card or online banking? Find you your bank statement. Look for the deduction against shopping. Note the name of the beneficiary. Send me more details. I have done it many times in the past , they do return money without much hassle.

I am sorry for your bad experience. I am not a big fan of flipkart but sometimes the banks do take more than couple of weeks to refund the amounts paid via debit card; even if flipkart has initiated the proceedings for the refund. You can escalate the matter before them and send them a legal notice but that should be after the matter has been escalated before the management. Legal recourse is the last step and not the first one.

You can approach your District Consumer Forum and file an application with all the details and the required documents supporting your purchase and replies from Flipkart. If the case seems justified the consumer court will fix an hearing date on which your case will be heard. Based on the judgement either you or Flipkart have to follow the order. If they haven't refunded they have to refund the amount along with interest rate as fixed by the district consumer court.

I do not know the value and transaction involved, but would venture to say that it makes better sense to follow-up with Flipkart in written mails / e-mails on the status of delivery / refund.   Some sellers on Flipkart may be lax or wanting but Flipkart has always provided a prompt response and resolution.

First take up the case with Flipkart customer support by writing mails/calling or using social media. If you are not satisfied with the response you can move to consumer court.
