After a long period of studying or working I can't sleep, what is causing this? And what are some tips or tricks to sleep?

I am a junior in highschool with midterms quickly approaching. I am constantly worried and always studying. For the last week I have stopped studying around 1 a.m. but did not fall asleep till 4 a.m. What could be causing this insomnia? What are some tips or tricks to have a few hours of sleep?

A lot of people have trouble quieting their minds after doing something that requires strenuous cognitive effort. Give yourself more lead time to rest before sleep. I've heard this called " change of state." You need some transition time. Watch your caffeine intake. Try not to eat for a couple hours before you sleep. The digestion can be disruptive to your sleep cycle. Try listening to relaxing , instrumental music. Deep, slow breathing.
