What do I need to do for a career in motorsport engineering when currently studying mechanical engineering from IIT-K and heavily involved in FSAE?
-
I am currently in India from IIT-K studying Mechanical Engineering and involved heavily in FSAE. I plan to do my masters but I am confused between US/ UK as the latter has more colleges in motorsport racing while the former has better overall colleges MS In UK is only a 1 year course. There is more grassroots racing in US than in UK so moving later from US to UK after gaining relevant experience might not be a bad choice. .But I am utterly confused . Please tell me what specialization should I take up and where should I plan my masters??and how should I go about making a great career in motorsport Engineering(finally making it into F1) being from INDIA ???? Any help would be greatly greatly appreciated.

Answer:
Well, there are a few anomalies in your question, first, UK is the place to be if you are talking about grassroots of racing. Now, if you are concerned about being in Formula 1, then you're just going in wrong in direction, you need to be sure what you want, motor sports or Formula 1. If you want motor sports, Formula 1 will eventually come along, you should be ready to take on any challenge that this sport throws at you, aiming formula 1 will not put you anywhere. Making the best car in any competition should be your only aim for that Masters doesn't even matter. Where does Masters come in then, it comes in picture where you see yourself practicing motor sports, you need to leave India and be in UK/US, that's where it comes in. Now if you feel Formula 1 is the place for you be in UK. If you feel motor sports is where you want to be place doesn't even matters. For my choice i'm choosing US because that's where i want to be, i only see my self building the most bad ass car in the competition, maybe formula 1 will come along, maybe not, but my core will always be there, and the satisfaction of what i do will always be there, and that doesn't make me incompetent, it only gives a reality check on what i'm currently doing.
