How to create LINKS to other websites in my blogs?

Do any services exist that are similar to Tumblr and Posterous, but that allow you to create complete websites, not just blogs?

  • I'm looking to create a content site and it seems like there has to be a service out there that is user friendly for pretty basic website creation.  If not, are there templates within tumblr or posterous that don't look like your typical blog? Thanks

  • Answer:

Posterous supports adding static Pages to your site as well. See the Pages tab after logging in to get started on creating a full web presence. Click Advanced Options at the bottom of the Pages tab to set a homepage that's different than the default blog page when someone visits your site.

You can simulate this by adding "pages" to your Tumblr blog. It's tedious, but also free. Type "pages" into the Tumblr help application (http://www.tumblr.com/help) for some quick instructions: "You can easily add static pages to your blog for things like a bio, contact, or about page by clicking Customize from your Dashboard and using the Pages menu." Building a website this way is definitely not as clean or user-friendly as the blogging process, but it can work in a pinch.

WordPress is used by many small businesses and developers for small businesses in order to create rather robust full sites.  As a result, there is a huge cottage industry of plug-ins and even pre-designed themes (that you adapt using plug-ins as needed).  You can either create a "blog" as a subdomain on http://wordpress.com or if you have your own site, you can move a copy and have it independent, or get someone to host for you.

Jux looks like a promising platform since it doesn't look like a typical tumblr or posterous blog. It's tablet-friendly and has a pretty basic way of showing your content. Update: http://t.co/MrJpplYyq5 (Nov 2014)

I have limited experience with it but check out Drupal Gardens as well. I know Drupal is a powerful CMS and they (obviously) developed it. http:://http://www.drupalgardens.com. You could also check out http://www.jimdo.com/

Yes, Many sites exist that allow you to create a free site as tumblr or posterous. I had created a website using webnode which looks like this:    http://wealllovedating.webnode.com/

You could try out SnackWebsites - http://www.snackwebsites.com/. I work there and I also use it myself, so I know for a fact that it's easy to use. You can check out my site right here: http://keepgoing.snack.ws/.
