Free things to do in London on this Sunday?

What are the most interesting things to do in London on a Sunday afternoon?

  • Answer:

Try Speakers's Corner in Hyde Park, just opposite Marble arch. Contrary to what most guidebooks say, it really starts kicking about at 1 or 2 PM, and is worth a visit (on a sunny day, otherwise it can be a bit sparse).

Originally posted here: I live for Sundays, here are a few ideas of my favourite things to do: Go for an early morning run by the canal or in a park or by the river; there is nothing more satisfying than seeing a quiet London which is a rare sight only available on early Sunday mornings in most places in London Breakfast, I LOVE breakfast - you can either do the greasy spoon option serving a full English or the more sophisticated croissant/muffin and coffee at the coffee shop whilst reading The Sunday Times If there is one thing I possibly love more than breakfast, it is brunch. Brunch in London is absolutely fabulous and generally starts at about 11am and lasts till about 2pm. You can do the planned fad ones like Bunga Bunga (http://www.bungabunga-london.com/) with unlimited prosecco or a month's advance reservation at balthazar (http://balthazarlondon.com/). You can do high brow like Plum + Spilt Milk (http://plumandspiltmilk.com/) or more laid back like Caravan (http://www.caravanonexmouth.co.uk/) Some thing to do later on in the day (around 12pm or so) is going to Camden and trying to open air international food market by the Camden Lock for lunch. I go there and love going to different stalls and sampling out food (all stalls give free samples) till I decide what I want from the many countless cuisines on offer Another idea is to have an afternoon out at Kew Gardens (http://www.kew.org/) or see the deer park in Richmond if you're west or stroll about the observatory at North Greenwich if you're east or breathe in the view from the top of Primrose Hill if you're up north or walk about Clapham or Wandsworth common if you're south A slightly later afternoon activity is the quintessential afternoon tea which is amazing, there are usually groupon deals for some cheaper ones but do shop around for good reviews and book in advance Covent garden is another gorgeous place to spend a Sunday although I usually tend to steer clear of Oxford Street or South Bank and they tend to get over crowded on Sundays Hope some of these ideas will help you get started. Also have a look on Londonist and Timeout to see what's on during the weekend as quite frequently there are plenty of free events/activities/events/fairs happening over the weekend as well as spoken word, poetry readings, interesting talks as well as lots of other exciting things which all culminate into making London the best place to live in the whole wide world :) x

Start at the Brick Lane Market. Grab a salt beef beigel on your way. Wander north through to the Columbia Rd flower market (it closes at 2pm though). Once you're done there, head north again, up Kingsland Rd. Stop for an amazing Vietnamese meal at Song Que Cafe. Then go to the Geffrye Museum (also on Kingsland Rd) - which is a hidden gem. After that head back down Kingsland Rd - stopping for tea at the bonkers Victorian bordello that is the Bridge Cafe (I recommend sitting upstairs).

Go to the Southbank centre and look over the river Visit Tate Britain Go to Bricklane street market Go for a walk at Hapmstead Heath Depends on what's interesting for you

You could do a river walk - starting at the Tate Modern on the Southbank and then heading east, finally arriving in Greenwich just in time for a nice early evening meal at one of the restaurants dotted around the area. There are several interesting sights along the route including, for example, the Surrey Docks City Farm.

I agree with Sjors - The Southbank is great :) Some West End theatre's do Sunday Matinee show's too which are nice. They usually run from 2.30/3ish to around 5.30. A great way to spend an afternoon. I know that the London Palladium do Matinee shows and they ar currently showing the Wizard of Oz http://www.londonpalladium.org/, I also know that Jersey Boys do sunday shows http://www.jerseyboyslondon.org/. Sometimes if you turn up at the theatre on the day you can get deals. Enjoy
