What are the opportunities for an MBA abroad preferably in the US?

I finished my BTech in civil engineering. I teach MATLAB in a local institute here. My boyfriend wants to study for an MBA now and I should support him. What are the career opportunities for me?

  • I am 22 and I finished my Civil engineering from a small college in Tamilnadu with 8.6 CGPA and good core knowledge. My family is little conservative and are not ok with me joining any job.I fought and joined in a local training institute and started teaching MATLAB to students there. I too had a love story and after much fights with family, they told lets see after 2 years.. Now my boyfriend joined MuSigma as Decision Scientist and he wants to pursue MBA after 2 years experience. Since my dad wants us to get married by the end of 2 years, he will be studying after marriage technically. So we cant expect financial help from family. So he wants me to get a decent job to support him and family for 2 years. He convinced my dad to allow me to take a job I am interested in. But I dont know how to proceed now. It has been 7 months sinced i passed out of college. What are the career opportunities now? 1. Any PSU exams or interviews I can go for? 2. Any freelancing/ work from home opportunites based on Civil mapping softwares? 3. Any courses I can undertake in these 2 years (when he works) and shape future based on it?

  • Answer:

in your case, you have 2 options i think.. 1.while your boyfriend doing job you can go for higher study during this 2 years and your  salary will be good enough after 2 years. 2.you can start private coaching since you have good core http://knowledge.in 2 years it will be set and will act as good source of income. thank you for A2A..and have good life ahead.

Most of the PSU take GATE scores. Though you can try in State level Public Service Commissions and SSCs for posts of Junior and Assistant Engineer , if you are good with Technicals , Another option will be RRBs. There are lots of government option which come from time to time. You can also move to non-technical , such as Bank POs . thousands of vacancy come every year. Freelancing work is hard to come by , if you don't have contacts , Since its B2B you need to have good contact with people or be extremely lucky. Courses , Can you be specific a bit.?

has already given a very good answer. In addition I'll like to add these: http://www.freshersworld.com/jobs/jobsearch/Civil-Engineer-jobs-for-BE-BTech-Civil-Engineering?course=16&branch=145. Bookmark this link- They update Job openings (both Govt./PSUs and Private Companies) from all over India. Check the page once or twice a week and apply if any favorable opening comes up. You can try sending your CV to companies applying for jobs regarding Civil Mapping softwares. But that is a long shot considering you're a fresher. Since you've a good knowledge of core subjects and also is well acquainted with MATLABand other civil engineering softwares, you are a very well-suited for an MTech from the premiere institutions. This would not only earn you a Masters degree but also provide you with better campussing opportunities. You'll also be eligible for teaching jobs at better institutions. So, definitely you should be preparing for GATE this year. Finally, try segregating your personal life while you're making important career decisions. This will help you out on the long run. Best of Luck! :)

I hope you are writing GATE exam this year as PSUs follow the GATE scorecard. Also, this year thousands of seats have been opened for graduates in Indian Railways. Check the website. That is one real decent job. If you're willing to work in your home-state, I'ld suggest you to check for the vacancies this year in CPWD and similar Government departments. If there are no or less vacancies, you can apply for post graduation in a decent engineering college or join there as a lecturer, as you have a good command on core subjects. Also you'll get the stipend there and after two years many more options will be open for you. You can apply for learning softwares online but I guess the option of  working online later with a company wouldn't be easily available. You'll have to check for that in Metro cities as small cities mostly go for office work in such fields. Good luck!

Many people gave many answers and all of them were nice. In addition to them, I would like to give you another suggestion. You say that you have good knowledge on civil engineering and completed B.Tech, so you may join in any engineering or diploma college as a professor and simultaneously apply for M.Tech partime. So that by the end of 2 years you will be finishing your M.Tech as well as you'll be getting more income compared to working in that institute for teaching MATLAB. You can also appear for govt. exams in the mean while as you will stay in touch the subject all these 2 years. thanks to A2A
