Thanks for A-2-A. Time taken to become certified may vary based on few factors Comfort/Familarity - Your comfort with Java language/ DB will greatly vary in your learning OR revising the already learned concepts. Time - If you are working professional, Trust me, you will take longer to get your certification since you are short on time. Freshers on other hand have more time to explore and learn, so they can achieve certification faster. The Certification exam is just couple of hours of on-line MCQ exam and results come within day or two, with each exam having different criteria for passing and if you pass then you become certified :) Can speak more confidently only regarding Java as I have done it. Generally speaking if you taking about the certification including the OCJA and OCJP, it take 6 months-10 months including time for both certification. My personal time-line for both OCJA and OCJP certification(while working). Other might take more or less time, depends on individual. OCJA- 2-3 Months. Preparing, Reading chapters. 1 Month more for preparing the solidifying objectives and tricky questions. OCJP- 3-4 Months. Preparing, Reading chapters. 1.5-2 Month more for preparing the solidifying objectives and tricky questions. Feel free to query for more. Hope it helps, Best of luck!!

I've got the OCJP 6 on 2014. It took me about 4 months, I was very focused on the certification and working at the same time. In my opinion, it's better a short period of training, 3-4 months, but very focused than long trainning 10 months or more. What I did was: - I read the book SCJP-Certified-Programmer-Java-310-065. This first time I just read to learn the content. I didn't do any exam or exercise just reading. The book is excellent but the content is sometimes boring and very very dense. 1 month. - After 1st reading I did some mock tests to get familiarised with the question format. 2-3 days. - 2nd reading of the book but this time doing all the exercises and exams proposed. It's very important to do the exercises in a text editor and compile in a console. DON'T USE AN IDE. It took to me 2 months. - Finally for the last 2 - 3 weeks I was very focused on the exercises of each chapter and doing the exams from the book OCP Java SE 6 Programmer Practice Exams (Exam 310-065). Also, I took a look at the book SCJP-Certified-Programmer-Java-310-065 in case that I wasn't sure about something in order to consolidate my learnings. The key points for me were: - Short and very focused period for the exam preparation. The content of the exam is very very long, for me was impossible keep all of this information in my mind for more than 4 months. - Do as many exercises and exams as you can. - FORBIDDEN TO USE AN IDE, always do the exercises in a text editor and compile in a command line. - Read again any specific section of the book in case of doubt. Good luck!

There are numerous OCA and OCP certifications, so it's impossible to determine specifically which ones you are referring to.  As to the time required for them -- it depends mostly on you rather than any factor of the tests themselves.  Someone who has been working with the topics covered on the exams for years would require a fraction of the preparation time of someone who had never touched Oracle.  In addition, people learn at varying speeds depending on their reading speed, reading comprehension and other factors. I generally expect to spend a minimum of six weeks preparing for any new exam.  However, I have been doing this for years.  Most people I would expect to take around 8-10 weeks per exam -- assuming they spend a few hours each day actually studying.

If you have Java programming experience for 1-2 years, then you can write OCAJP and OCPJP within 2 months of preparation. It is completely depends on your Java knolwedge and flexibility for learning hours. One rule may not be suitable for everyone. Ultimately, it is not so difficult to pass these exams. Any Java programmers can pass the exam with decent preparations.I would suggest you to go through my answer for preparing these exams:
