How to create a facebook likes page?

Any insight as to how to link an official Facebook page (vs. a community page) to your work history on your profile?

  • Here is an example which illustrates my question asked in more detail below: A prior company that I worked for (and that I want to appear in my work history on my Facebook profile) - Surterre Properties - is not appearing as a pull down option in the field that Facebook provides when you enter the employer.  I only have the option to add that company.  When I do this, it links to a community page for the company.  But, the company DOES have an official page (http://www.facebook.com/surterreproperties) with 357 likers: ...it's just that it doesn't appear as a pull down item that I can select when I create a prior position on my profile.  Contrast this to if I try to add Coca-Cola to my work history (which is fictional for me, I just did it as an example) and I get a pull down menu of many options to select Coca-Cola: So, my question is, why is Surterre Properties not showing up as a company in the profile interface even though it has an official page on Facebook?  Does Facebook only match employers of big companies? (I don't think this is the case because my friend Jay Thompson of Thompson's Realty just added his company page today, and was successful in linking to it from his profile...his page had 56 likes at the time - maybe it showed up because he is the admin?).  Maybe it has to do with the category that the page was created under?  Surterre is classified as a local business.  Do you think that matters? I'm stumped to find the logic. Anyone know if there is logic to what makes the page show up as a selectable option when you add an employer or have any other tips for not being forced to have your employment history link to a community page when the company does have a presence on Facebook?  BTW, I did type the company name exactly as the page name is for Surterre (Surterre Properties, Inc) which I figured might be part of the issue, but Facebook still didn't match it.  I also tried just Surterre, but it didn't find any matches for that as well.  Any thoughts?

I just did that for my business. It didn't show up in the dropdown as well, but I entered the exact name of the facebook page and it linked it correctly.

Shrotly after Facebook rolled out the new profile design, I wrote a note on my business page with suggestions for optimizing your use of these new features.  I also included detailed instructions for linking your business page to the Employer section of your personal profile, as this is a problem that some of my friends were having. These instructions work for other pages as well - for example, your various schools, as well as your political and religious views.   Here's a link to my note: http://www.facebook.com/TenMileSoftware?sk=notes#!/note.php?note_id=169472129761832   If you don't need help with other parts of your profile, and are interested only in linking your employer page to your profile, scroll about 2/3 of the way down the page and look for the paragraph that starts with "OK - all of this is easy enough."   If you still need help after reading this note, please feel free to contact me and I'll be glad to see if I can help you.

There is a bit of lag on this on Facebook's end. Just addressed this question via this video: http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=1560215176427

My guess is that Surterre Properties has not claimed their Facebook places page and that is why it does not appear on the drop down list. Have the owner claim the places page and merge it to the business page. Then you might be able to add the company. I did check and the places page for the business is not claimed. Hope this helps :-)
