Where to get PHD in medical tourism?

Is a PhD a compulsory option to get into top companies like Google, Microsoft Research, etc.? How difficult is it to get back into a PhD after spending a few years (<3) at a workplace?

  • I am a fresh Master student from Computer Science, in Machine Learning and Data Mining, I have not had any work experience so far. So I am wondering is it better to get work experience and come back for a PhD. But I have heard that in most cases, ppl get stuck in company life and are not able to come back to academics. So I want to know what are my chances of getting into research part of companies like Google, Microsoft, Quora etc. And how difficult is to come back for a PhD after a few years at work? And how much more challenging does it get to do a PhD when you are dragging baggage with you (here baggage refers to girlriend/ wife + kid/ kids?

  • Answer:

I finished my Master's right around the time my daughter was born and started my PhD program soon thereafter.  I even took my two year old with me on a 6-month, 13 country fieldwork endeavor.  So yes, it can be done, 'baggage' or not. As to whether you need a PhD - for machine learning and data science, it's certainly useful.  But even more useful is a portfolio of work.  You could consider spending your time building some amazing solutions to some very real problems.
