What's a good website to find part time jobs?

What is the best way to find part-time and/or remote-only tech jobs?

  • I have a very experienced background in software engineering.  I have over 20+ years of doing it.  I recently worked (in an office) at a big tech company, as a senior engineer, then a technical product manager.  I know programming, devops, and product like the back of my hand.  When I apply to jobs, 9 times out of 10 I receive an offer, and it's usually a good one.  My background is solid (CS academic, and CS real world, in addition to business school etc). The problem is, I don't need a full-time position, nor do I want to work in an office ever again.  I found it to be a waste.  Yet, if I score an offer, and then mention wanting to work part time, remote, or both, it isn't an option for them.  So, I guess I need to look at tech companies that are primarily remote and/or part-time based, but I am having trouble finding them.  I know how to do everything, I can build anything, I just don't want to go back into an office and be forced to sit in a chair 9-5, because it hurts my back (literally the reason I left my last high-paying, office-based tech job–zero work/life balance).  I get more done working remotely as the time is used for quality work instead of stretched out over a day when sometimes, being forced to sit is unproductive. At the same time, I don't want to hang out a shingle and do consulting work, as this is a huge pain (been there, done that); I want to work on a team at a real company.  I am based in the US, but working for an international company would be alright, too, though you never hear of any that seem to have big names. What is the best way to approach this?  How can I find quality remote and/or part-time tech jobs that are not old school IT jobs (rather, new school, Ruby/Python/Cloud based Agile app development)?

  • Answer:

Have you considered https://angel.co/? It caters specifically to startups that are traditionally much more lenient in terms of job location flexibility. I think that any startup would be stoked to have someone on board with your experience. I don't know if any of them are specifically looking for a remote worker right now, but they very well could be. Give it a scroll through and see what you find. Good luck to you.
