What is the work of Red Cross?

I can't imagine volunteer work in a political party, Amnesty International or the Red Cross to be hard/ difficult work, after having finished high school in Germany. Am I wrong?

  • I plan to start a voluntary career by commiting all the free time I got when I finish my school career this year. The skills that the Abitur demanded of me (german graduation) seem much harder than any work I can imagine in working voluntary. Additionaly working in such Organisations seems the very best thing for me to do as I would not only gain a lot of experience, but also it would help me get acceptet at a unversity.

  • Answer:

I'm a Red Cross volunteer in Bhutan. Volunteer work can be VERY difficult. Living in another country with a different culture, religion and languages can be isolating. Then there is the constantly being sick from different germs and different expectations of hygiene and food. I've had no water at home for 5 days and frequently have no electricity, internet or phone service. It's NOT easy and don't waste your time (and everyone elses) if you just want to put in on your Resume.
