What are the ideal companies that I can work for?

As a UK citizen, what sort of work can I legally do in the UK for US companies?

  • I am UK national, I used to work in the USA but my Visa ran out. Several US companies want to use my consulting talents. I plan on actually performing the work for these US based clients in the UK, but plan on meeting them and getting work, by being in the USA. If I enter the USA on the WVP, am I legally allowed to have meeting to source work ? If I tell the POE entry personal I am there for business, what am I legally allowed to do or not do?

  • Answer:

The rules for what 'business' you can do on the VWP are very similar to the rules of what can be done on a temporary B-1 visa. http://www.uscis.gov/working-united-states/temporary-visitors-business/b-1-temporary-business-visitor http://www.workpermit.com/us/employer_b1_b2.htm If I had to put it in a nutshell, you can't do the same "day-to-day" kind of work in the USA that you are normally doing in the UK. You can have meetings in the US and arrange for new business / solicit contracts, etc, but you can't actually perform the work here in the USA.
