How do I get a 3rd-party app to integrate with Outlook 2013 (Office 365) in order to send attachments?
-
We use a 3rd pty Accounting software that integrates with our email client to send invoices, purchase orders, reports, etc. This worked fine until we upgraded to Win 7, Office 365, Outlook 2013, as well as the 3rd pty software. Now it works on some of our computers but not others. We have not been able to determine why so that we can fix those that don't. Neither our IT person, nor the 3rd party software support tech can get it to work. It is working with Windows Live Mail, Outlook 2013 and AOL Mail on other systems here in the company.

Answer:
I am not an IT expert, but I was A2A and can tell you that when I have run into this problem with accounting software installations, that it is almost always an issue with calls to MAPI. Either 1) the email app is not MAPI compliant-ie: Office 365 and most webmail services do not support MAPI unless you have Outook installed locally (in which case the best workaround I have found is a little program called http://www.affixa.com/ ) or 2) there is a problem with the mail setup and you either need to check the default email program in the OS default programs or you need to re-install the email app.

This is between that 3rd party application developer, Microsoft and system configuration. The best person to ask is your IT specialist. If neither he/she nor respective tech support can help, you're out of luck, it's time to look for alternatives and workarounds. Alternatives: other accounting software that's proven to work for that you need it to do a different configuration (e.g. cloud based) a different email client Workarounds: Go back to what used to work (older version) Duplicate a working configuration. Here's how: find one computer that works. Clone its boot disk image to another disk. Run on a computer that's identical or very similar. Verify that it works. Verify that all software is licensed / activated. Now you have a working workaround. :) Good luck. :)
