Medicine Career Path?

If I want a career that involves practicing medicine, teaching, and doing research, then what is the best path to take?

  • Answer:

In the US you have a few options all of them require completing medical school and at least one year of post graduate medical training if you want to practice medicine. 1) graduate from university, ideally with research experience graduate from medical school Complete a residency and possibly a fellowship 2) same as #1 but go to graduate school/do research either between university and medical school or take time off from medical school, or even afterward if you like 3) same as #1 but do a combined MD/PhD program (which is nice because it usually pays for your medical school and gets you a spot in a more competitive residency) I did #2 and will be starting teaching/practicing/researching at Univ of California, Irvine in August. Most of the other people who were competing with me for this same position did #3
