How to download APK from android market?

If an Android app allows a user to download a 3rd party app store, does it violate the Android Market developer agreement?

  • "4.5 Non-Compete. You may not use the Market to distribute or make available any Product whose primary purpose is to facilitate the distribution of Products outside of the Market." http://www.android.com/us/developer-distribution-agreement.html The crux of the issue seems to be the meaning of "make available". It says you may not use the *Market* to make a 3rd party app store available, but does it also mean you can't use the market to distribute an app that, among other functions, links to a download of a 3rd party app store "app", like GetJar? Say I have an app that has a legitimate function of it's own, but also shows an advertisement for GetJar that the user can click(or press) to download GetJar's app store app.

  • Answer:

Since your app does not directly distribute GetJar, (or any other store app, for that matter), it is legitimate to place an advertisement or something similar for the store app. However, if the primary purpose of your app is to redirect users to the store app (GetJar), that is very likely in violation of the agreement.
