What is preschool like in Asia? What is a typical day?

What country in Southeast Asia has the cheapest per-day cost for decent month-long rental and high speed Internet?

  • Presumably Hong Kong has the cheapest Internet, but rents are high, and poorer countries have cheaper housing but worse and more expensive Internet.  I'd like something approximating a Sheraton Four Points and 2Mbps ADSL.

  • Answer:

Cambodia and Vietnam. Cambodian capital city Phnom Penh has several good cafes with high speed internet where you can work all day. Another plus is the active tech events scene in Phnom Penh and Cambodia in general. If you feel life is too quiet, you can take a couple of hours bus (15 USD) to Saigon (Vietnam) for the weekend. Costs in Phnom Penh: Comfortable hotels from 12 USD ++, even cheaper if you negotiate monthly rate. If you plan on working on your computer, I would recommend the hotels near Street 278 (Boeung Keng Kang 1 or BKK1) or Street 172 (behind Wat Ounalom) , they are less noisy and have good cafe/bars nearby. See this link for hotels Phnom Penh Hotels and Guesthouses - http://www.canbypublications.com/phnompenh/pphotels.htm Internet: Go to Kiriya Cafe on Street 278. There are some other nice cafes on Street 278 with wi-fi and power sockets. Some even have extra iPhone and other chargers. Candy bar on Street 136 is another great place for fast internet, as no one comes here for the internet and you will have all the bandwidth for yourself. Almost any eating place in urban Cambodia has wi-fi, even some of the busses heading to Vietnam. Mobile Internet: As soon as you leave the customs area at Phnom Penh airport, you will find the mobile sales booths. Just walk around and compare costs. Internet plans are inexpensive and they have nano sim cards too. For Vietnam, just walk into a mobile phone shop and compare the sim card data plans. Dalat city, a hill station in Vietnam is also my favorite place to go when I need to get some work done. There is a lovely lake in the centre of the city and the restaurants all around have good wi-fi. (see photo). You can fly to Dalat from Saigon for less than 50 USD. The guesthouses here range from 8 USD ++. The weather is great and you get to spend the evening at small cafes with local coffee. My office in Dalat, Vietnam.
