Would a web sites Google ranking be lowered by having the same content also be in a wiki under the same domain name?

I have heard duplicate content damages one's ranking. We plan to put the text in the wiki for easy editing, but will also have a prettier version on the web pages.

Please keep in mind the answer below is generic, based on a generic question. In an ideal work, this is how it should work, if the copy is not oniginal. But you never know, there are a lot of factors that make a site/ page rank. Quite often you will see duplicate content ranking higher than the original content. Google is trying to fix this with thier recent updates to the Algo.
