I want to appear for civil services exam 2016. How do I prepare a realistic timetable and what do I include in them?

Answer:
Well you will be preparing full time for next two years. It is a long haul and you have decided to put your best efforts. Please remember and take care that you do not burn yourself out. You intend to pursue IAS for several years and you have to ensure that your energy levels sustain on a long term basis. You should become more motivated and focussed with every passing day and not the other way around. If you analyse the number of candidates and the actual number of persons who appear for the preliminary you will realise that a large number of applicants are not able to appear having lost the urge and stamina therefore guarding your morale should be your first priority. For you in order to ensure a good start and then long term sustainability and finally to avoid breakdown or over fatigue. my advice will be moderation and discipline. This has worked with all my batch-mates and I feel this is the only way. In order to achieve a steady, beneficial preparation a balance has to be kept between effort, rest and pleasure. Never overwork except for few days just before the exams and neither overindulge in pleasure nor avoid unpleasant tasks. Hence keep apart for studies not more than 10 hours. Break these 10 hours into 3 chunks of 3-4 hours. Study a topic for no more than 40-45 minutes and give yourself a break of 10-15 minutes. Break is not the idle time but a necessary part of cognitive process where mind processes all that you have studied so far else information overload will freeze or degrade the mental processes. Above 10 hours also includes the coaching classes. Relax, meditate and do some yoga every day maybe twice for 15 minutes. Do not ignore friends and family keep apart some time for them also 3-4 hours. Try to manage with a sleep of 6-8 hours. You may try a short power nap in the afternoons.
