What is a high paying sales position??

What enterprise software sales position would you take, selling to the mid-market at salesforce.com, or selling to "national" accounts ($100m-$5B) as an Oracle DB rep?

  • Keep in mind the base at Oracle is more... Thank you for the A2A. I am assuming that because you are looking at a "Software Sales Position" which is an entry level for Multinational Organizations, you are in the mid to late 20's. If that is the case, go for a sales position that offers a good career growth. I would advise you to go for Oracle. You are right that Oracle has a larger customer base and it is more established. Oracle is like an IBM (back when midrange to large computers are the standards), Cisco for Networking, or VMware for Virtualization. You have a more solid career path and there are different branches of solutions wherein you can grow and establish your network. The Trend in sales nowadays is Business Solutions Selling and you can learn the tricks of the trade in Oracle wherein they have also a larger solutions base from DB to Analytics to Consultancy, etc. Also, dealing with larger accounts prepares you for higher challenges and thus, greater opportunities for growth in the near future. Don't get me wrong, SFDC is also a great company. And yet, it has only gotten wings in the past few years owing to the popularity of Cloud-Based Solutions. And yet, it does not offer the same breadth of solution sets as Oracle and you may have not that much opportunity for growth and learning. Having said all of these, there are other areas to consider such as the overall package, amount of work expected of you vis-a-vis your package, location of the office, culture of the company, etc. Lastly, also consider your "Gut Feel." It is the right side of your brain working and maybe a reflection of where you want to be. Good luck! :)
