How can i make my Wikipedia?

How can I make Chrome search Wikipedia for X when I type "wp X" into the location bar?

  • More broadly, how can I add/manage search keywords in Chrome?

  • Answer:

Right click on the omnibox > Manage search engines. If Wikipedia is already in there (it probably is), change the keyword from http://wikipedia.org to 'wp'. If it's not, add a new search engine with keyword 'wp' and URL 'http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ASearch&search=%25s%27 Chrome automatically adds search engines you use on the web to this list of search engines and uses their domain as the keyword with the ability to use 'tab' to complete the keyword if it partially matches our autocomplete rules. This means that if you visit http://amazon.com often, you'll be able to search http://amazon.com by typing 'a<tab>searchterm'. Similiarly, if you ever did a search on wikipedia and wikipedia is in your autocomplete set, you should be able to search Wikipedia by typing 'w<tab>searchterm' without ever having to manually configure any keywords.

Go to Preferences (Cmd - ,). Click "Manage Search Preferences" about halfway down the first screen. A pop-up should appear, and at the bottom is where you add it. In your case, it would be Name: Wikipedia, Keyword: wp, Search URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Search?search=list+browser
