Which textbook on thermodynamics would you recommend to someone who has only studied its basics in high school?

Answer:
You could read Classical and Statistical Thermodynamics by Ashley H. Carter. This books provides a pretty readable introduction to thermodynamics assuming no more background than general physics. Each chapter of the book is short but very clear, making the whole book tight. I was quite enjoyable when reading the book.
