How do I create an RSS feed to post my podcast to iTunes?
-
I am a co-producer of Diwaniyya, a monthly audio podcast on Middle East Culture, History, and Politics at Tel Aviv University. In order to put the podcast on iTunes, we need to create an RSS feed. Not all memberes of my staff are comfortable with XML; are there any (ideally free) solutions that simplify the process of creating the feed?

The best way to do this is by using free software to run your website, display the episodes and shownotes, and generate the RSS feed. I recommend WordPress for this. You can run WordPress on almost any web host. It's completely free to use. Once you have it installed, then add the PowerPress plugin to enable you to create a podcast from the website. Then take that RSS address that PowerPress gives you (probably http://yoursite.com / feed / podcast /) and give that to iTunes, or run it through FeedBurner first. I covered a lot of things in a short explanation. Listen to these couple podcast episodes of mine for more information on this process: How to Start a Blog or Podcast Website and Hosting Recommendations: http://theaudacitytopodcast.com/tap058-how-to-start-a-blog-or-podcast-website-and-hosting-recommendations/ How to Setup and Use Feedburner for Blogging or Podcasting: http://theaudacitytopodcast.com/tap053-how-to-setup-and-use-feedburner-for-blogging-or-podcasting/ Although WordPress is blogging software, adding the PowerPress plugin turns it into a podcasting software, too. You post each episode like a blog post with your shownotes, attach an MP3, and then publish the post. If you need help setting up, I also do that professionally, so feel free to directly contact me here or through my site.

If you use WordPress and publish an episode per blog article, WordPress http://codex.wordpress.org/Podcasting care of generating the necessary RSS feeds and you can simply add them to your syndication accounts in iTunes and other services. I work with a company that wrote a post about why WP is best for podcasting. Hope this helps. http://blog.nexcess.net/2014/04/15/wordpress-is-the-perfect-platform-for-podcasting/
