When will Firefox 3.6.12 will be released?

Will Firefox Mobile ever be released for iOS devices?

  • Firefox Home is currently available in the App Store however, it's not a full-fledged browser.  Several other browsers, such as Opera Mobile, 360 Web Brower, and Skyfire are sold in the App Store.

  • Answer:

I am a developer on the mobile Firefox team at Mozilla. We currently have an iPhone App called Firefox Home, which lets you sync your Firefox tabs, history and bookmarks to your iOS device.  You can get it from the app store, or read more here: http://www.mozilla.com/mobile/home/ We have no plans to release the full Firefox browser for Apple iOS devices. The  current iOS SDK agreement forbids apps like Firefox that include their own compilers and interpreters: "3.3.2 An Application may not download or install executable code. Interpreted code may only be used in an Application if all scripts, code and interpreters are packaged in the Application and not downloaded. The only exception to the foregoing is scripts and code downloaded and run by Apple’s built-in WebKit framework." Other browsers for iOS use the built-in WebKit libraries (like Skyfire) or do not execute any JavaScript on the device itself (like Opera Mini, which uses a proxy server).  But unless Apple removes these restrictions, full browsers like Firefox are not allowed on iOS.

A Mozilla VP, Lukas Blakk, said last week that Mozilla will bring Firefox to iOS. See here: https://twitter.com/lsblakk/status/539843892300898304 See the story (rather critical of Mozilla, sorry) on Daring Fireball here: http://daringfireball.net/2014/12/mozilla_firefox_ios

Firefox just released their iOS version, and it's wonderful ! I'm sure the introduction of Firefox will enrich the possibilities iOS users have when browsing the web

Reason being Safari is locking down with html5 and css3 ... to develop more interactive apps and website  in the palm of your your hand .... and firefox is considered as a 3rd party to them....   remember adobe flash..... there locked out as well... that might be the real reason... but i thank Matt for breaking it down on how they block mozilla from compling with there terms.... thanks... Mozilla should team up with Motorola or any new hand held tablets company  and  support them as there BROWSER...  while still having iphone app version as an option to those with iphones and ipads... or like you said about OPERA which Android supports...Firfox can stay as a app like them.... but hey im just a joe the plumber with ideas unless..... tell your boss to holla at me..... lol IM Jessie nice to meet everyone.... :)

Dude have you seen the chrome browser.. Its amazing. as an end user and a dedicated FF user all i need is my bookmarks and passwords be available[very basic need] with a masterpassword support. I don't really care what engine you use in background on mobile or what plugins is supported. You can work on that afterward. Even after 5yrs of IOS in market you cant give dedicated app to its user... shame... Workaround: Upgrade FF home to support passwords also along with master password.
