  India is the country where people finish their bachelor's degree and then wonder what they want to be in life. Most students have no idea what opportunities lie ahead. In fact, most students in my college, irrespective of their fields aim for IT companies like TCS. (not that my college complains about it. They love the way TCS recruits students like wholesale apples from a supermarket). Now that you have an idea of the state of India, you should know that career counselling has a HUGE market here. There are some really good firms that conduct aptitude and psychological tests on high school students and analyze their strengths, weaknesses, and interests. The agency that came to my school in 2008 even gave me a list of career options that I was compatible with. That was very useful when I had to make a choice between science and commerce. That being said, India NEEDS career guides. We have the youngest population in the world and are producing lakhs of graduates each year who have no idea what to do with their lives, because someone in their family said "Engineering kar lo beta. Bahut scope hai". We now have a prospective entrepreneur rotting away in an overpaid bank job and a school athletics champion slogging it out in a factory.
