Is getting a Master of International Business degree worth it?

I'm a computer engineering student wanting to set up my own business in the future. Should I first work with a company or start my own business after getting my master's degree?

  • Answer:

What do you want to do with your own business? I would suggest starting your business immediately.  It takes a while to get up and running.  It costs about $40 in most states in the US to register a "doing business as" name, which will get you a business account, which will allow you to take payments and do your taxes separately. Most people need a while to come up with a name, a system, designing their forms, choosing companies to run their back end services, etc. There is usually no good reason to wait to get started.

There is no rule to follow but if you have figured out any idea or business plan then Start working else you can join any company and then explore business idea and work with that company unless you find your idea. Set target of two years for job, if you crossed that than you become lazy and you are addicted to regular income. It is hard to leave than after.

#own #business vs #job which is best : It is generally advisable to get some experience under the belt before you start something on your own. However, if you have an idea which you believe can do well, there is no harm in setting aside a fixed period of time to start a new business right away.If you succeed, you carry on, or else get back to working with a company. You could also explore a couple of franchise business opportunities if you are inclined more towards entrepreneurship. You will get several new opportunities at http://www.franchisebazar.com  In-case you do not have anything concrete in mind, concentrate on your education and build a career first.

Hello, I would suggest reading Steve Blank and Bob Dorf book on Lean Startup - The Startup Owner's Manual. As well as this it is worth completing Steve's free online course, how to build a startup. https://www.udacity.com/course/how-to-build-a-startup--ep245In my opinion and vast amount of experience, Lean Startup is the only way to go. If you would like someone to speak to about your idea or if you are looking for a mentor, I am happy to help you. https://www.linkedin.com/in/ianscarffe

Do both. Register a domain name for your business and start a hosted wordpress blog about it. Then register all the associated social media accounts and schedule regular blog and social media posts. Then go and spend five years making mistakes with other peoples money. If you update your blog once per week for the next five years you will have 250 relevant social media linked onsite articles about your business at almost no cost. You will also have whatever you can save from five years wages to invest in your startup. Good luck.

What I suggest is if you already have the business idea and business plan then you should start it right after your master's degree. If you don't have such an idea, you should keep on thinking and try to find a good idea before you graduate. If it fails, you must not waste time thinking about a business. You must try to join a company and while you are working there you can start thinking again. That is what I suggest.

Not necessarly. If you want to be a little bit more mature before making the big move then it is a good thing to have some experience. Again it is not necessary, experience is important but try to find a good company where you can really make some good expernce and learn business lessons otherwise it will not be worth.
