Which website is the best service for customers?

What is the best way to build an on-demand service or website similar to Uber targeted primarily at small business customers?

  • I know the business well, but have no background in web development. It should allow multiple services (much as Handybook does), and have a simple interface for both customers and contractors.

  • Answer:

Since you have no background in development, I assume that you'd be hiring one or more people to make this happen. The first thing I'd caution is not to underestimate the costs (both time and resources) involved in developing an app like Uber. http://thenextweb.com/dd/2013/12/02/much-cost-build-worlds-hottest-startups/ “Based on its early rounds, a minimum viable product for Uber cost about $1 to $1.5 million to develop.” A lot of effort goes into making a difficult problem appear simple to the user. Think about what the minimum product would look like. Does it have to show service providers moving in real time on a map like Uber does? Or could it be simpler? Where can you cut functionality and features to get it down to the bare minimum product to prove that there is a demand for the product in your target market? Once you have answers to those questions, and you have a simple minimum product wireframed and tested with users, then you can look into hiring a developer to build it out.
