What are some of unicef's philanthropic activities?

What activities make up the (web-based) social pyramid?

  • Activities like photosharing and casual games are popular on social sites - what else would be included in the pyramid and how would the activities be stacked? The pyramid assumes an existing audience, so the base doesn't have to include a social graph. note: inspired by:

  • Answer:

As my point of departure, I would use social activities that people engage in in real life, assuming that some day, some smart entrepreneur will figure out how to migrate each activity to the web. So, for example, what are social activities that people engage in, in real life? A few examples: sharing photos and videos gaming sharing restaurant recommendations sharing doctor referrals sharing product recommendations sharing music recommendations sharing movie recommendations sharing book recommendations sharing magazine/newspaper article recommendations sharing job recommendations sharing travel recommendations sharing personal news providing dating referrals providing introductions asking questions sharing investment recommendations sharing lawyer referrals selling homes selling goods selling services In addition to the traditionally social, offline activities, I am sure that there will arise activities which, were not social in the offline world, but due to the unique characteristics of the online world, become social. Thanks!

The Altimeter Group report, "Understand Your Customers' Social Behaviors" could be a valuable reference for this: http://www.slideshare.net/charleneli/understand-your-customers-social-behaviors Here is an image of the "engagement pyramid" from the report:

Although attractive as a model, I'm not sure that it is a pyramid necessarily, as these activities / behaviours do not have to develop sequentially.  Forrester did some related and interesting research on this with their 'social technographics', which maps behaviour of online users in general - in this model (with the exception of 'inactives'), the activities can overlap or be mutually exclusive, dependant on the individual concerned.
