If a company is dependent on getting data from a YouTube API, can YouTube decide that the company can no longer use their API (if it seems like it is competing with YouTube)?
-
Or is there an agreement that Youtube can't do that...it would be unfortunate to build a business with their API, but later find out you can't use it...
-
Answer:
Yes. https://developers.google.com/youtube/terms -- Section III Para 7 Termination: "YouTube reserves the right to terminate this Agreement or discontinue the YouTube API or any portion or feature thereof for any or no reason and at any time without liability to You." That said, it seems Google is trying to be as reasonable as possible with the YouTube API. They're happy to help you help them make more money. Here are the three biggest no-nos for YouTube API: You can't sell their content or access to their content. You can't sell ads in videos or on pages with their content when said content is the main reason people visit the page. You can't do anything that messes up their content. I think that if you have an idea for monetization that doesn't violate their existing terms, you're probably going to be okay for the foreseeable future. Google thinks the monetization opportunities for YouTube API lie in content creation, content discovery, and content organization. And they're okay with all that. You should get real familiar with https://developers.google.com/youtube/terms and this page: https://developers.google.com/youtube/creating_monetizable_applications. They give examples of companies that are built around their API. Have your legal counsel look this material over too. So is there a risk? Sure, but depending on your upside, it could be a risk worth taking.

Well it's their data so they can use all possible restrictions. Also the data provide with their Apis is not sufficient enough to create a business of YouTube magnitude( I believe). And talking about the competiton if they were or as matter of fact of any company is worried about competiton they will never make those Apis available to market.
