My hp simplesave usb hard drive has a cddrive with hp backup software on it. I am unable to remove this partition. Looks like a firmware lock to me. Is it possible to remove?

it is very irritating, whenever i plug the drive on any machine, the cd drive partition auto runs. Havent been able to find any information on the hp site either.

Answer:
Unfortunately manufacturers are increasingly implementing features like this to lock users into using their software. The good news is that with a little know-how we can disable the partition entirely. In the 'Control Panel' go to 'System' Go to the 'Hardware' tab and open the 'Device Manager' Expand 'DVD/CD-ROM drives' Find the drive called 'HP VIRTUAL CD' (or similar) Right-click this drive and select 'disable' That's it. From now on you won't see the virtual disc so it's software won't auto-run.
