What are the mundane activities that would make me understand the art of business inside out?

I am reading http://www.amazon.com/Drive-Surprising-Truth-About-Motivates/dp/1594484805/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1397633583&sr=8-1&keywords=drive I am reading the chapter about Success and Satisfaction. I am having a big aha-moment here. I am very interested in business and some day I want to build my own company. I however know that I am not ready to start one. Pink says: "Mastery requires effort (difficult, painful, excrutiating, all-consuming effort) over a long time (not a week, or a month, but a decade). He also talks about the "mundanity of excellence": Those who typically do best spent the most time and effort on the mundane activities". This "mundanity of excellence" is the reason for my question. I want to focus on the basics of business. I want to study business. However, what are those basics? What is the mundanity of business so that I can excell and become a strong leader / business owner in a decade? What do I study? Which activities do I take on? Where should I focus on? What should I avoid focusing on? I understand I am taking my first step to this journey. I do believe, however, I having the right compass. I read http://www.amazon.com/The-Habits-Highly-Effective-People/dp/1451639619/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1397633971&sr=8-1&keywords=7+habits+of+highly+effective+people every year atleast once. I am in the search of the compass of business. I am 30 years old, from Europe. This is a serious question to me.

Answer:
I have not read this book but: Physical exercise, healthy eating, getting enough sleep Taking care of basic things Understanding basic arithmetic, arriving at numerical answers based on evidence, proof, and mathematics rather than trends and superstition Understanding human emotions, reaching a deep understanding of things based on underlying substance rather than facile analogies to mathematical concepts Honesty, listening, focus, meditation These are semi-necessary but not sufficient to achieving objective success. If you achieve excellence you may lose all interest in being a strong leader in the art of business, and pursue simple excellence instead. I do not agree that excellence in any transcendent form is mundane. No amount of doing things right every day will take you beyond. But it is important to be disciplined.
