What does an advertiser actually do?

I'm an advertiser and want to advertise directly on a website. What is a good platform which handles CPC/CPM for me?

  • Edit : I'm an advertiser seeking to promote a product, not a publisher. Lets say I found a website and I want to approach the admin directly on placing an ad, what service can I use to set up payment to the admin per click or per 1000 views? The site admin must have clear and transparent access to click and impression data. I don't want to go through an ad exchange to do this. Also, paying the site admin a fixed amount and then sending over your banner image isn't cost effective.

  • Answer:

I didn't get what you mean... You want to sell spaces inside your website to advertisers? If so ... Take a look at DoubleClick by Google. They offers types of products, one of them is DoubleClick for Publisher Small Businesses.

Well depending on your region, try the main DSP providers. Most of them should accept CPM/CPCs

You have received good advice already. If you want your ad on a specific website, your best bet is to do a deal with that site directly. You will still need the ability to track performance on your side, which you probably already have via your own site analytics and/or a 3rd party tech such as Adobe/Omniture. If you  want to advertise broadly and manage campaigns to specific CPC/CPMs, you can try the DSP's as has been suggested already. Some  agencies also offer homebrew solutions to help manage your spend, but they typically will only track placements they are buying for you (and getting paid for) so if you wanted to track say a combination of open network placements with a "custom" deal you did above, they may not be able to track the custom deal for you. Hope this helps.

You can always sign up with CJ or Linkshare or a number of other affiliate management companies. Not sure what vertical you're in but you can always contact those sites you specifically want to advertise on and see if they have a pricing program in place or if not negotiate something with them. You'll have to give more detail about what it is you offer and what sites you were interested in to get a more specific answer.

You are kind of asking two different questions, at the same time. If you want to be 'directly on a site'...then just go to that specific site. You don't need a platform really to do that. And not knowing what kind of "platform" you mean [SSP, DSP, etc.], suffice it to say that any one which can NOT handle those by now....isn't even in business, most likely.
