What is the scope of "Mechanical engineering" in India?

What is the scope of doing M.Tech in mechanical engineering in India? Is simple B.Tech in mechanical enough to apply for all types of job in mechanical sector?

  • recently i m working in tata group of companies with an avg. pakage of 4.5lacks( after 1 yr. exp.),so i m able to go in psu's(sail) after this.

  • Answer:

The more you learn, better is your learning curve. If you do M.Tech, you will learn the deeper aspects of various other processes. One such specialization offered by IIT Bombay is Computer aided design and automation. If you do M.TEch you will be doing 5 or 6 extra courses (PG Level) and one M.Tech project. FromĀ  personal experience I can infer that if you sincerely complete a project, you will have much more insight and much more expertise than what would you have before a project. If you want a high paid job in Mechanical Sector, having a M.Tech degree will provide you an edge over the B.Tech guy. Similar would be the case with a person who has done Phd. So you won't be wasting your two years. To provide an icing on the cake, You Wont lose your Student LIfe, which most of them desire.

There are certain jobs, specific profiles in Mechanical Engineering for which an MTech degree is essential. However unlike certain other departments like Aerospace Engineering the job opportunities in the core sector open for just BTech guys are fairly good both in number and variety even if not as many as if you have an MTech. I hope this answers the second part of your question...This is based mostly from my experience in the campus recruitment process.
