Which is better - capacitive touch screen phones or resistive touch screen phones?

Is Nokia going to use resistive touch screens on their future WP7 phones or are they finally able to switch to capacitive ones?

  • Nokia has been using resistive touch screens in their smartphones when the dear rivals have mainly relied on capacitive ones - does any one recall whether the decision to adopt resistive technology was a) a cost issue (cheaper price?) or b) legal restrictions (eg Nokia patent ownership?) or c) any other reason?   Some of us have had the opportunity to trial Windows Mobile 7 phones with capacitive touch screens, in my case Samsung Omnia 7 and HTC Trophy 7. The general feedback of the user experience has been good or even excellent - do you think that the experience on future Nokia WP7 phones with resistive touch screens (?) would be better, on par or worse compared to to current WP7 phones (based on your best knowledge and experience)?   If on par or worse - do you still think that it will not be the key factor for Nokia WP7 success in the future? Does it really matter which technology Nokia will use in the future?

  • Answer:

capacitive screen with atleast 4 point multi-touch support is a minimum requirement for all WP7 devices
