How does one become a SAP professional?

How does one become a Sound Designer for Film in Singapore ( if one isn't already an accomplished musician )?

• Assuming that one is acquainted with the fundamentals (dialogue clean up, ambience, foley, music scoring, mixing) of sound design in film-making, how does one actually go about getting a job as a sound designer in Singapore? Is Yellow Box Studios really the Mecca for wannabe sound designers? ( Yes, respected names like Leslie Low and Kevin Teoh have actually interned or worked there before!) Or can one simply freelance the minute one graduates from sound design school (assuming one has the required equipment/software for freelance work)? If so, how difficult is it to grab freelance gigs without having to demonstrate your bloody competence by letting independent film-makers coerce you into doing pro bono (read, unpaid) work (especially if you are not an accomplished musician like Sonicbrat or Amanda Ling. Apparently, the latter "sound designed" V1K1, an independent film, when sources told me all she really did was contribute some textures/soundscapes )? I apologise if I sound bitter, jaded or cynical. Well, I am fed up with why accomplished musicians are seen as more competent at "sound designing" when scoring music is just one tiny, bloody aspect of sound designing?! (Well, that doesn't mean that I can't score. I can bloody score, but where is my credibility? After all, I am no Leslie Low, Amanda Ling, Sonicbrat or Kazz)

  I think, like many jobs in the artistic field, you need to first get into the industry. Put your work out there, take on whatever projects you can/are interested in, go and meet people. Sooner or later, if you're good, people will know you and ask you to work for them.
