What is the distributional sector?

Why is every other person starting their own website/developing their app? What will happen to other industries now, are we done with the service sector?

  • Now a days everyone can code and develop some app on their own. What would happen to service sector industries like management consulting?  Are there no opportunities to startup, if I cannot code? See based on the little experience that I have got, I would like to broaden my question on few facts. 1) Why are IT companies over valued as compared to companies like Mckinsey, BCG? I found out that most of these management consultancy, investment banking companies are not publicly listed, it is because of a simple reason that they cannot afford to let public sentiment come in the way of their functioning, So that is why we cannot calculate their actual worth, and secondly we use the services of these companies (Google, Facebook, Microsoft etc ..) that we value them more. We don't hire Mckinsey consultants every day. Some one who get's hired in Facebook is all over the news, but same is not the case with BCG. Why this bias? Have a look at these articles:- http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/johncassidy/2014/02/which-internet-stock-is-the-most-overvalued.html http://finance.fortune.cnn.com/2014/03/05/facebook-stock-whatsapp/ http://www.forbes.com/sites/petercohan/2013/04/05/four-reasons-facebook-stock-is-76-over-valued/ 2) Who will buy the applications if everyone is developing them? 3) Agreed that starting an company in secondary sector requires capital and starting one in service sector requires connections/experience, so what now? TCS started 60 - 70 years after Tata Steel and is six times as large as Tata Steel, Facebook is 2/3rd the size of McDonalds. What the heck?

  • Answer:

I think the assumption of the question is not true. More people are still scared of committing themselves to own business than those who do. Creating an app is not the same thing as creating a business, and despite so many people having the talent to do so, so few have the devotion and commitment. IT companies are valued at much lower levels compared to consultancy firms. In fact, last couple of years, IT firms have paid for those consulting firms at really crazy valuations
