How can the EU trade be made more sustainable?

If 33 % of the world production of intel processors is made in Costa Rica, why do we locally pay more than 30 percent the price that is paid in the US and Eu for the same processor? There must be a line of flexibility in the so called free trade zone that can only produce to sell abroad....

  • Answer:

Intel campus in Costa Rica is consideres a Free Zone, in Costa Rica this means is a tax free zone for companies, but everything they make has to be exported somewhere, so, whatever they do in there, has to be imported back.

I assume it has to do with taxes; this wouldnt be an import tax, but a tax on electronics, that is not differentiating between electronics made domestically and those imported from abroad. Unless, of course, those same processors have to be shipped somewhere else, before they can be packaged and sold....

A majority of the production has been allocated to different buyers/markets outside of Costa Rica. So technically, it would be more expensive to sell the same product in-country. The same way that iPhones are more expensive in China even though they're produced in-country.
