How can I capture audio from the device microphone on the Safari and/or Android mobile browsers?
-
Intended for speech recognition, although could be for other uses. The user will press an on-screen button to start and stop the audio capture, so the mic doesn't need to be in standby or always-on mode, just called when the user says Start.

Answer:
Audio imput without a plugin wasn't implemented into browsers until just recently in Chrome 11 (look at google translate if you are running chrome). Mobile browsers are farther behind and won't incorporate this feature for a while.

This is possible on Android but with a limitation. Your webpage will open up the Recorder app. However, I haven't found a way around this on iOS Safari. Apple locked down the microphone on the mobile browser.
