How do you get exposure on Deviant Art?

I'm in a position where I need to raise money to pay medical bills. I have a few pieces of original art which would be recognized by a select group of people familiar with the artists (now dead). What venue will get the most exposure for these paintings?

  • Answer:

You can contact galleries who've carried that artist in the past.  And you can as well, look to auction houses if the artwork is from prominent artists.  Before you consider anything, the most important would be to find the approximate value of your art.  So doing some research first would be a good thing to do.  AskArt would be a good place to start, and Artprice  http://www.askart.com/AskART/index.aspx http://www.artprice.com Pros and cons to consider - Pro - A respected auction house would be able to promote to their clientele and perhaps generate interest that could bring a selling price higher. - You may get a better value for the art Con  - By selling to a gallery they would take a large percentage for the sale, anywhere from 30 to 60%.  -  Finding a client through a gallery, rather than the gallery make a direct purchase could take time - In an auction house unless you set a reserve, if they don't have the right audience it could sell for less, or the worst to consider that it not sell. If your artist is well enough known, you could contact a major auction house, Bonham's is one to consider.  But here's a list of houses and online auctions http://art-collecting.com/auctions.htm Now, you could try selling yourself in an online auction, Artnet has an online auction service you should consider having a look at, it's generally for galleries or serious collectors but it wouldn't hurt to have a look. http://www.artnet.com/auctions/ http://www.artnet.com/auctions/contact-us And last, don't underestimate the power of ebay - they have a fine art section and sell works of all kinds and prices - here's a link  http://www.ebay.com/rpp/art/

That depends on the artists and what country you are in. I would research where their work has sold before and who bought it. Contact those gallery owners and buyers and you will be in good shape.
