What are some British universities that are friendly to an aspiring international student from the USA?

How do I join top universities in the USA as a transfer student, considering that I am an international student?

• Has anyone in India transferred from a good Indian engineering college to any of the top universities in USA - MIT , Stanford , the Ivy league universities? Besides a stellar GPA and high scores , what else did they did to achieve this feat? Also it would be helpful if their status on financial aid could be mentioned.

  Good US Universities typically have no need for and do not offer transfer programmes to international students. They usually have a sufficient number of international students who are interested in applying directly for a 4 year undergraduate programme or postgraduate programmes. On the other hand, several universities in Canada and the U.K. offer similar programmes. As a transferred international undergraduate student in Canada, I have some experience in this respect. However, there are NO grants or scholarships offered in the first year abroad and you will have to pay international student fees yourself. If you do well in your first year, there is a chance for scholarships later depending on your university. Jobs on-campus or off-campus are another option. As an engineering, commerce or computer science major you have other ways to finance your education in Canada by joining a longer internship around 12-16 months long where you will work full-time but this does increase your course duration from 4 years to 5 years.
