Is it a good idea to apply to Harvard Summer School?

  • I'm considering whether it is correct to apply to Harvard Summer School coz the tuition is quite high, but someone said that this experience would help your application. And I want to apply to the JD program of Harvard Law School after graduation. So is it true that this experience really helps a lot?

    Going to Harvard for summer school will do very little to improve one's chances of getting into Harvard for their law program.  It's one of the most competitive law programs in the country, so the prestige of your primary undergraduate university, your GPA, and your LSAT scores will be the primary determinants of whether you can get into HLS, not whether you attended a non-exclusive summer program for a summer.

The Summer School will not strengthen your application in any way. If at all, it will help in showing that you have got international exposure and spent your summers productively. Having said that, the summer school will be a life time experience and worth every penny you spend on it.

If you're looking for a college experience, then Harvard Summer School is a great opportunity. It's worth its tuition. However, if you think it'll increase your chances of admission to Harvard, then you're totally wrong. I attended Harvard Summer School, and only 2-3 people from my year gained admission. So it does not help at all. Harvard Summer School is like an opportunity for Harvard to make even more money.
