What is the best way to get your blog out there and known?

  • Answer:

The short answer is to provide consistent value in your blog content. Then identify and target your audience. The targeting tactics would vary by industry (blog topic) but there are definitely SEO practices that will aid its discovery via search.

Chris is right about consistency and knowing what your target audience wants to read. It's also important to use various social networks (depending on your industry). Facebook and Twitter are pretty standard, but since I'm not sure if you're referring to a business' blog or a personal blog, let's focus on Twitter. If you use Twitter well, it can drive tons of traffic back to your blog. But simply tweeting the title of your blog post with a link back to your site will not work. You need to be pro-active. You need to be creative. You need to use great marketing when you are tweeting about your blog posts. Here are a few ideas for promoting your blog on Twitter: Include an intriguing quote from your post Include statistics Ask a question about the topic & link to the article For a more ideas and some fill-in-the-blank formulas that are applicable to a diverse range of industries and professionals, check out this article: http://blog.wishpond.com/post/54926252742/12-formulas-how-to-use-twitter-to-drive-traffic-to.

On-page optimization: Each time you write a blog, you're going to include a primary keyword in the title and in the body of content. Your goal is to attract the search engine spider to crawl on your blog. You also make sure that your blog contains posts that are worth reading by different users. These readers must spend more time in reading your post or they are encouraged to browse for more posts. It's also important to vary the content and its formatting. Contents can be articles, videos, podcasts, polls and slide lectures. http://survivordean.wordpress.com/2012/05/26/seo-talk-the-link-building-that-works-part-1/ Off-page optimization: The term is called "off-page" because these are the techniques you perform if you're not sign-in to your blog site. The most effective way, in my opinion, is providing something of exclusivity. If you have it exclusively, no one else can. Partner with any friends or resources you can. Premiere a track from an artist and embed it, be the first to post a photo and watermark it lightly, run an album premiere of someone's upcoming release. I have done this with countless new websites that I am personally just a fan of. We premiered the Sucré album on Dianna Agron's new site You, Me & Charlie simply because they were fans of the music. It has helped them both immensely I believe! (see photo below) Make the site aesthetically pleasing enough that if you are to reach out to a publicist or digital marketing person about hosting content, they will give you a shot. Give some love beforehand and hopefully you'll get it back.

A lot of people will say "Post on Twitter" or whatever other social media site out there, but the problem with this is that you are not solving a specific problem. If you are building a blog that is going to be remembered and saught after you are going to have to solve a very specific problem. For example if Tom wanted to talk about cars on his blog that's great but talking about cars isn't going to get people to follow him as much as talking about specific problems people are having with a specific car. So if someone was looking for a van that would best suit their family needs they would want to go to a blog that focuses on family cars or vans that are being reviewed by people (or you). Therefore you are solving a problem for them by providing them a solution to their problem - which van is best for their family? Find a problem and provide a solution for EVERYTHING you do and you will notice not only that you are growing in popularity and learn more about the people you are reaching but you will also have valueable people who want to pay you for providing them solutions to their problems. Know where your customers hangout most of the time. Is it Facebook? If yes, be specific. Go to that place, and present yourself as a giver. Give valuable content consistently. Provide tips, tutorial and many more to the community. Once in a while, ask them question such as, "I'm going to write a new blogpost on my blog http://www.yourblogname.com. What kind of problem you are facing right now?" Don't force them to read your blog. Persuade them with valuable content.

As well as the previously mentioned methods you can read great advice from http://www.enchantingmarketing.com/ on how to write engaging content for your blog. Also, running Facebook promotions can help drive traffic in the following ways (I’m a co-founder of a contest app platform): 1. The condition of entry is to visit your blog. You can ask questions, where the answers can be found on your blog OR create a poll where your fans decide on what they want to see next time on your blog. 2. Collect email addresses, and inform them about new posts: promotions can capture email addresses and you can use them in newsletters, before then notifying them about new blog posts. You can run such contests on your Facebook page, or even on your blog. 3. Use user generated content (UGC) in your posts: if people see their content on your page they are more likely to share and engage with it. http://www.postplanner.com/how-to-crowdsource-awesome-facebook-posts-from-fans/.

The best way to get seen and heard by the right people is to distribute your educational content to social media channels that your ideal audience is on. Then I would go deeper by posting in niche groups and niche sites.  None of this works until you know who your audience is and where their attention is.  Read More: http://indispensablemarketing.com/blog/2014/03/26/top-5-content-delivery-platforms-for-getting-your-offering-seen-heard-and-out-there-into-the-world/

Lots of good advice on this chain...another tactic is to network with more established personalities (especially if you're just starting to blog) and see if they'll agree to guest-post. They'll shoot out their content to their networks, which presumably are bigger than yours, and you'll get an awareness boost. In return, you can provide a home for their content, a link, etc. Just make sure to present their content with great images, optimized SEO, etc., or they might not choose to blog for you again.

When it comes down to getting your blog out there and known, part of the work that you're going to do is write informative blog posts. I'm not saying that your blog isn't informative, but I am talking about writing content that is long form style since this tends to have a higher likelihood of getting shared than content that is considered "short or thin". The next thing that you're going to do is use many different channels of promotion. Look into: Triberr Blog Engage Onlywire Twitter Pinterest Linkedin How to websites Imgur Podcasting Vlogging Video sharing websites Develop infographics and upload them to infographic websites Blog Catalog VCB (viral content buzz) Use instagram etc. There are "many" more channels to explore, but utilizing these promotional channels will give you access to other audiences that are larger than your own. These channels will keep you VERY busy on top of continuing to write more content for your blog, doing SEO and building links. This will help you build some momentum for your blog in terms of getting it out there, but it's also an ongoing process too.
