Is instrumentation a good career?

What should I prefer taking into consideration scope for higher studies, better career opportunities and good jobs: IISER, NISER or instrumentation engineering at IIT Kharagpur

  • Answer:

Look dude, what is it that you want?(higher studies or good jobs?) If you want money and that too quick(that is if you are underprivileged right now),go for instrumentation at IIT Kgp. But mind you,the jobs in the academia in India are no less enticing and even more secure than private jobs. After completing your Phd and post doc(during both you can earn money),you can apply as an assistant professor, which could fetch you something around 80,000/- per month at IISERs or IITs alongwith yearly travel grants for attending conferencees. If you are a basic science enthusiast and interested in physics,I would suggest you join IIT Kanpur BS if your rank allows you, else IIT Kgp or IISER Kolkata. Initially here at kgp you will have to plough through a lot of crap courses in the first year,But when the secnod year kicks in you will be exposed to a lot of varied and interesting courses. But if you can resist being an IITian,go to IISERkol. Also if you are interested in nuclear physics go for NISER,their courses are oriented more towards that area, If you are interested in chemistry I can't say,but IIT Bombay seems good.
