Would studying/practicing HTML/CSS 5 hours a day for three months be enough to get a $40k salary/job?
-
Studying in the USA -Job could be ANYWHERE in the USA or remote. -Studying would be self study via TreeHouse and/or Codecademy, etc. -4-6 hours per day for 3 months.....or...8-12 hour per day for 1.5 months. -My assumption is these skills would be needed working in the sales, or marketing departments. If not, what would be required to obtain an entry level, $20 per hour job?

Answer:
I absolutely love Treehouse and their resources, but I think you may be setting yourself up a bit thin in terms of time..when I initially started learning web design, I put myself on a similar timeframe. What I found out was that there were a lot of things around the corner that I initially couldn't see and which that timeframe would in no way be able to accommodate. Of course these things included technical stuff (debugging, cross-compatibility issues, etc) but just being able to navigate through the field and understand the roles played and what you're best-suited for can be a challenge in itself. Also, life can get in the way at times. I know you want to be employed, but my question to you would be what exact position are you looking to be in? Once that's understood, I think we can go from there and the path might be a bit more clear.

Certifications and hands-on experience will trump free online training. It's impossible to say what you can earn because it will be based on experience, work history, professionalism and geographic location. Free online training is great to get a leg-up on something you dont know, but just passing a codeacadamy course is not in itself going to get you hired. If you can however demonstrate an understanding of the technology, that is your best bet.
