Where can I find resources for french fashion?

Are there any online marketplaces for emerging fashion designers?

  • We have a few emerging designers who have approached us to sell their pieces online because they don't have the resources to do so independently. We are thinking of building a simple online platform to meet their needs. However, we wanted to find out whether there was already a marketplace geared towards fashion designers, allowing them to easily sell their merchandise without upfront costs. In other words, are there any marketplaces similar to http://Etsy.com for fashion designers?

  • Answer:

Many are going direct, trying to create an independent brand, using tools like http://Goodsie.com, http://Shopify.com and http://BigCartel.com to get started easily. There are also startups like http://FashionStake.com and http://StyleTrek.com to look at, and on the accessories side http://Boticca.com and http://Touch2Give.com (both based in Europe). http://Supermarkethq.com is another to look at. (At http://aprizi.com we are creating a discovery engine across all of them.)

There's also http://NextStyler.com, that proposes contests, with different moods and targets, where young fashion designers can partecipate by uploading them sketches. All the sketches will compete with a voting system and the most rated will have the opportunity to be manufactured and sold on NextStyler online shop. The winner designers will get a revenue from the sold items. NextStyler organizes contests collaborating with famous brands too, just to give the opportunity to the most talented designers to work with them. Another section of the ecommerce will be completely dedicated to emerging fashion designers that already have collections and would sell them creations. Finally the site will offer the possibility to get fundraising too.

I think it's easier to utilize the Wisdom of the Language ( http://news.english.net.in/wisdom-of-the-language ) to address a target audience than to try develop a brand for the same purpose (I think this might be especially so for something as fickle as fashion -- since otherwise you would be building a brand that is always standing for something that has now become last year's fashion) If you would like to build on the Wisdom of the Language, then I have several opportunities available in the fashion space (contact me if interested ;)

If you're aiming for Asia markets, Pinkoi is definitely the leading online community and marketplace for designers in Asia, http://www.pinkoi.com. 7000+ designers and 1400+ brands are currently teaming with Pinkoi across the boards to aim for Asia markets and it's fun to just browsing through all the designed products. They also have a English version (http://en.pinkoi.com) to serve international designers and buyers. Pinkoi is more similar in a sense of Etsy but with differentiation on Pinkoi is a curated platform and focus on design rather than just handmade products. They even have some pinned boards on Pinterest (http://pinterest.com/pinkoi/ ) check them out!
