As results are declared for various exams in schools and colleges, parents are seen imposing a particular career choice on their kids, ignoring what the kids want to do. Even in 20s, opinions pertaining to the choice of an individual remain unattended and dormant, whether be it a choice in the path

Doesn't imposing parent's/elders' decision on kids lead to their harassment ? At times parents have absolutely no idea what their kids feel, and what would be right for them, and opting for their choice leads the kids to follow something which might not interest them at all. At times, it turns out very depressing for kids. And as their confidence level decreases with more of these impositions and restrictions, kids might become prey to depression at a very young age. Some boys/girls move out of their homes and end up making girlfriends/boyfriends in the "hope of finding love from them at least". P.S. This question is only put up with the context of "impositions" and "restrictions" by parents on their children. And though the parents believe that they mean their children's good, but still it turns out suffocating at times..!! What should be the best approach to convince and change such kind of parents??

Answer:
We need guidance from our parents but only till a certain age, our parents do not understand this. It is very difficult to come out of their shade and put your foot down when you think you really want to do/have something but parental pressure is not letting you do that. It indeed kills many dreams and you yourself start having a very restricted thinking. Its for parents to leave their children alone when its time. If they do not children start fighting for that. I am sure our generation will be better in these terms.

Sadly, yes. What you said is true to most part of it. When we analyze the problem, we would observe that this exists predominantly among the middle-class in India. For the parents, Engeneering and Medical are seen as escape doors from the strangling financial burden. To be fair these are the safe options as well. Clouded by this opinion they have formed right from the early years of the child's study they are averse to change when finally the time arrives. At this point, it is imperative from the student's perspective to have a fair view of the situation and know his preferences in education ahead. Attempts to convince the parents about the decision albeit difficult but must be made. We must realise that eventually it's our lives that would depend on what career we choose. And if we are not going to like what we do, it's better not doing. Success and failure come later, but enjoyment comes first. That we dont value enjoying studies is the fundamental failure of the education system as a whole and not the parents or students alone.
