What are the main features of a community web site?

What is the best analytics package for a web site with community/social features as well as commerce and checkout flow?

  • Answer:

You probably want to use two tools, one to collect raw analytics and one for click stream tracking. I would probably go with Google Analytics for raw data.  There are a number of tools for click stream. A few that I've tried and liked are clicky (my current tool of choice) crazyegg, and woopra. Now that you have the tools in place be sure to start reading up on best practices and get familiar with how to read and interpret all that data. Even the smallest sites generate a large stream of data and it's easy to get lost or make incorrect assumptions. A few blogs to follow are Occam's Razor by Avinash Kaushik (http://www.kaushik.net/avinash/), Matt Cutts blog (http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/) and the SEOMoz blog (http://www.seomoz.org/blog). Best of luck to you and welcome to the wonderful world of analytics.
